Lakshmi Puja is performed to invoke the blessings of Goddess Lakshmi, the deity of wealth, prosperity, and abundance. The most significant Lakshmi Puja of the year is performed on the night of Diwali (Kartik Amavasya). Friday evenings are considered auspicious for weekly Lakshmi worship.

Clean and purify the puja space. Draw a rangoli with chalk or flower petals

Set up the idol of Goddess Lakshmi with Lord Ganesha to her right

Place coins, jewelry, and account books near the idol for blessings

Perform Ganesh Puja first

Invoke Goddess Lakshmi with the mantra: Om Shreem Hreem Shreem Kamale Kamalalaye Praseed Praseed

Offer lotus flowers, marigold, and tulsi to the Goddess

Offer sweets (kheer or pedha) and fruits as Naivaidya

Light all diyas and perform aarti: 'Jai Lakshmi Mata'

Recite Sri Lakshmi Ashtottaram (108 names of Lakshmi) or Shri Sukta from Rig Veda

Distribute prasad and conclude with Aarti

01What time should Lakshmi Puja be done on Diwali?+
Lakshmi Puja on Diwali is ideally performed during Pradosh Kaal (the evening twilight period, roughly 1.5 hours after sunset) on Amavasya. The exact muhurta (auspicious time) varies by location and is published in Diwali panchang.
02Can Lakshmi Puja be done on any day?+
Yes. While Diwali is the most auspicious day for Lakshmi Puja, Friday evenings are considered best for regular weekly worship of Goddess Lakshmi. Purnima (full moon) and auspicious occasions are also suitable.
