Satyanarayan Puja is one of the most widely performed Hindu rituals across India, dedicated to Lord Vishnu in his Satyanarayan form. The Katha (story) from the Skanda Purana is recited, and prasad is distributed at the end. It is performed to give thanks for blessings received, to seek divine protection, and to mark auspicious occasions.

Set up the altar with a clean cloth and place the idol or picture of Satyanarayan

Perform Ganesh puja first — invoke Ganesha to remove obstacles before any ritual

Perform Kalash (water pot) sthapana and invoke the nine planets (Navagraha)

Perform Satyanarayan Puja with 16-step Shodashopachara: invitation (Avahana), seat (Asana), water for feet (Padya), water for hands (Arghya), water for sipping (Achamaniya), bath (Snan), cloth (Vastra), sacred thread (Yajnopavit), sandalwood (Gandha), flowers (Pushpa), incense (Dhupa), lamp (Dipa), food (Naivaidya), water (Achamaniya), betel leaf (Tambula), prayer (Vandana)

Recite or listen to Satyanarayan Katha — five chapters from Skanda Purana. A pandit can recite, or it can be done by the family

Perform aarti at the conclusion: 'Om Jai Jagdish Hare'

Distribute prasad to all present. The traditional prasad is sheera (semolina halwa with banana)

Perform visarjan (immersion/conclusion prayers) to conclude the puja
