Vasant Panchami (also Basant Panchami) is the 5th day of Shukla Paksha in the month of Magha (January–February) and marks the beginning of spring (Vasant Ritu). Goddess Saraswati is worshipped on this day because it is her birthday according to the Hindu tradition. Students place their books and instruments before her, and the day is considered auspicious for beginning new studies, arts, or creative endeavours.
Yellow (Peet Varna) is the primary colour of Vasant Panchami, associated with ripening mustard fields, spring sunshine, and auspiciousness. White is also sacred to Saraswati as it represents purity and the clarity of knowledge. Wearing yellow clothing on Vasant Panchami while performing Saraswati Puja is traditional.
Yes. A simple Saraswati Puja at home before examinations involves placing your study books and stationery before the Goddess's image, offering flowers and sweets, chanting 'Om Aim Saraswatyai Namah' 108 times, and praying for clarity and retention. Vasant Panchami is ideal, but the puja can be performed on any day — especially Thursday (Guru's day, associated with education and Jupiter).
